Control Rooms and Call centres that operate on a continuous i.e.
24 hour 7 day a week, basis, require operator chairs that can sustain
the extreme use demanded by such operations. In any 24-hour environment,
there are normally 3 operators that will use any given chair, a
fact that leads directly to limited accountability and ownership
of the product. This invariably leads to abuse of the products,
which conventional operators chairs that are designed for a normal
(i.e. 8 hour) day, are unable to endure. The use of conventional
operators chairs in these extreme conditions directly results in
product or chair component breakages, downtime and therefore operator
discomfort.
Recently,
BACK SHOP INTERNATIONAL introduced the first 24-hour operator chair
to the South African market. This chair, the AIRPORT, utilises special
components that have been strengthened to meet the extreme conditions
associated with 24-hour, 7 day a week usage. More specifically,
the chair has been strengthened in those areas that traditionally
fail when conventional operators chairs are used in a 24-hour environment
i.e.
- Castors.
The castors on the AIRPORT are riveted castors, which prevents
the twin wheels from separating from the centre axle.
-
Five-Star Base. The AIRPORT is fitted with a 690mm
diameter steel base that is not only larger than a conventional
nylon base, but it is also substantially stronger.
- Mechanism.
The AIRPORT mechanism is imported from North America and is
designed specifically for the American 24-hour operator market.
No other mechanism available in South Africa is specifically
designed for 24-hour usage.
- Armrests.
The armrests on the AIRPORT are not fitted to the seat, but
are attached by means of a special bracket to the chair mechanism.
This prevents the common problem associated with armrests “breaking
out” of the seat when they are fitted directly to the
plywood shell.
- Hairpin.
The steel bracket, or hairpin, that attaches the backrest of
the chair to the mechanism, is more than 20% stronger than the
standard hairpin used in a conventional operators chair.
- Seat
Foam. The seat foam, is moulded thus resulting in a
more durable and comfortable seat, especially when used on a
24-hour basis.
- Seat
Depth Adjustment. The depth of the seat on the AIRPORT
has a 50mm depth adjustment, thus enabling the seat depth to
change from 480 to 530mm. This allows the chair to accommodate
a broader range of operators, a factor that is important in
an operation where three people share one chair during any 24-hour
period.
- Seat
& Backrest Movement. The AIRPORT mechanism is not
a synchro mechanism, but rather a fully independent mechanism,
that allows the seat and backrest angles to be adjusted separately.
This is extremely important from an ergonomic viewpoint, as
an independent mechanism is more likely to accommodate those
users with lower back problems. A synchro mechanism will generally
not accommodate those users with specific lower back problems
as the relative seat - backrest movement on a synchro chair
is mechanically linked and cannot be changed. With an independent
mechanism, the seat and backrest angles can be set separately
for any specific user.
- Guarantee.
The AIRPORT mechanism is the only mechanism available in South
Africa that carries a 5 year multiple shifts (i.e. 24-hour)
normal weight warranty. No other locally available mechanism
carries an equivalent guarantee.
